As for me, I’m in need of some advice. I’m currently looking for the best music jukebox software for my PC and, since I’ve never used my computer for listening to music before, I’d like your input. The things I need sounded pretty simple to me, but after looking around the web I’m no longer so sure.
And that’s where you come in.
I want you to tell me which jukebox software you use and WHY you use it. I’m looking for software that will let me rip my WAV files to MP3s at 256kbps or better, have multiple play lists (jazz, rock, dance, etc.), keep track information (artist, title, album, year, BPM, etc.), NOT take over my computer, NOT install spyware and be inexpensive or free.
It should also do dishes and be willing to rub my feet.
Leave your suggestions in the comments below. I’ll tell you all my decision later this week because I know how anxious you get when I don’t tell you about every little thing that happens in my pathetic life.
Yeah mom, I’m talking to you.
I use dBpowerAMP from http://www.dbpoweramp.com
It rips cds up to stupidly high bit rates, has audio file conversion tools, does tags and all that. It’s freeware, with no spayware hidden away.
I personally like winamp. Free, small, skinnable, lots of playlists, crossfades, and more. But whatever you do DON’T use realplayer. It sucks major ass. It screwed up my cd-burner (kept messing up audio cd’s), and continoustly kept trying to connect to the internet (significantly slowing down my computer) when I didn’t want it to, and several other things. Once I uninstalled everything went back to normal.
I’d honestly recommend using seperate programs for ripping and playing, but if you must use a jukebox then MusicMatch is the way to go. You can configure it to encode up to 320 I believe, and you can do all those other things you need to do.
OK. Well, so far I’ve got one vote each for three seperate programs.
benway, I’ve never heard of dBpoweramp. I’ll be sure to check it out. Thanks for the info.
bri, WinAmp is supposed to be really good, but I’m hearing that version 3 is full of bugs and version 2 is good but has had some features removed recently. Any thoughts?
Steve, doesn’t MusicMatch use spyware, or at least cause some software conflicts due to it’s abhorrant installation proceedures? I’ve been reading that it never fully uninstalls and takes over Windows Media Player streaming files. Any experience with this?
Keep them coming people, and thanks!
musicmatch is deffinately the way to go!!! i’ve been using it for ages now………..since v2……and i’ve never had any problems with it. hell i actually decided to pay for the damn thing i like it so much.
as for spyware……….nope, not in musicmatch. not even in the free version, and the installation is customizable, it won’t take over any files you don’t tell it to.
oh……and the artist match radio streams are a nice feature too.
I’d go with Winamp 3.0, some little bugs remain, but its got to be the coolest looking program on my desktop.
Especially when you can make it look like this: http://www.deskmod.com/?show=showskin&skin_id=17332
I don’t really know, the last time I used MusicMatch was about 5 years ago before I realized that using multiple programs is better. I know people who swear by MusicMatch though, and I know that you can configure it so that it doesn’t take over anything (just like with the evil that is RealOne).
I know a site where you can get old versions of free programs, Oldversion.com. Sometimes they are better.
Nay on the musicmatch. Although it is a robust program, I find that it’s a memory hog (and I use an old, crappy computer) although it *is* very easy to use. If you have a fast enough computer, so be it. But I had problems with it and refuse to install again– even if I purchased the damn key.
RealOne is terrible too. Worse than Mm. Winamp has been pleasant. I actually downloaded dbpoweramp and I’m going to try it out. You can also check ou zeropaid.com for reviews (albeit, I believe there are some frauds there.).
Good luck. :)
iTunes, of course. Oh.. wait… your a PEE CEE user!!! ::snicker::
MS Windows Media 9.9 does a terrible job of CD track info lookup!
MusicMatch fetched my email address out of my registry and sent it home so that a week later they sent me some complementary spam. The MusicMatch came preinstalled with a new Dell Notebook PC (Inspiron 8500). Dell says they’re investigating, but don’t expect any changes — Dell is the wolf watching the hen house.
Go here, http://www.jms1.net/mmjb1.txt please share the info. I HATE spyware that’s in programs you pay for. I despise any compnay that ignores requests for information or clarification on their product. I was about to buy MM but first I did my usual google search, which is: musicmatch(or whatever program)and spyware. I wouldn’t put this on my machine if they paid me.
